Step 1:
Gather your supplies. I needed to measure out how much fabric I would need as well as keeping in mind the hem and elastic. If you are using my measurements provided then skip this step. Go to step 2.
Step 2:
After you have measured how much fabric you will need for the main hood piece I sewed the elastic casing on the two long sides of your main hood fabric. Depending on how wide your elastic is the best rule of thumb is to sew a casing that is 1/4 of an inch bigger than your elastic. To make the elastic casing fold your fabric over once and then again(to make a nice hem), pin and press to make sewing easier and the final product to look nice.
Step 3:
Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Make sure you sew the elastic at the ends or your elastic will come undone and it will not work as elastic anymore! Sew both sides, once that is done you want to make a nice hem on the shorter sides.
Make sure you secure the elastic on the ends like this:
Your hood should look like this now:
Step 4:
Making the straps. Take the 4 strap pieces
fold right sides of fabric together and press flat. Then sew each piece closed
but leaving the ends open.
Step 5:
Take one safety pin and pin it at the end of one of the straps at
the end of one piece of the fabric. You will use this to turn your strap right
side out. Shimmy the safety pin down the strap so you are able to turn the
strap. Turn all 4 straps so the right sides are facing out.
Step 6: Press the straps. Now you will sew the shorter straps to the bottom of the main hood piece.
Step 7: Take the longer strap pieces and sew them onto the main
hood piece.
Step 8: Now measure where you want the longer straps to have the
snap that will connect to your carrier. Mark the spot where you would like your
snap to be. This is where you will connect your snap. Follow the instructions
on your snap kit.
Step 9: You are done! Attach the hood by putting your bottom
straps on your carrier. Go enjoy the warm weather with your baby! Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to help! Also, leave down in the comments below if this was helpful.
